The effect of nitrous oxide sedation wears off almost immediately after treatment. Finally, IV sedation administers sedatives through the veins. This treatment is usually reserved for the most anxious patients. Like with other forms of sedation dentistry, IV sedation allows patients to completely relax during treatment, though they will still be able to respond to verbal cues from the dentist. Patients who have received IV sedation will usually need 24 hours to completely recover from the sedation effects after treatment.
