Dr. Sina Aboutalebi discusses Photodynamic Therapy and why it is beneficial
Keller, TX, United States (pr4links.com) 30/08/2013
Photodynamic therapy can be used to treat acne, sun damage or actinic keratoses, which are precancerous skin lesions, according to board certified dermatologist Dr. Sina Aboutalebi. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) can be performed in the doctor's Fort Worth dermatology office. Dr. Aboutalebi uses a photosensitizing agent called Levulan (Aminolevulinic Acid 20%) along with a light source to help treat skin conditions. The doctor applies Levulan to the skin at the site of precancerous or inflammatory cells, or acne. It is then incubated for approximately 60-90 minutes while the cells absorb the medicine. Following incubation, the area is exposed to blue light which activates the medicine resulting in the destruction and eventual improvement of precancerous cells and acne. Treatment also causes rejuvenation of sun damage resulting in a smoother and more even skin.

On average it takes about 2 treatments to see results, spaced approximately 2 to 4 weeks apart. Photodynamic therapy is often combined with other treatments, such as intense pulsed light (IPL), in order to maximize results and leave the skin healthy and beautiful. If you have sun damaged skin or stubborn acne, Dr. Aboutalebi can help determine if Photodynamic Therapy is an appropriate treatment option for you.
