National Protective Services Institute Partners with Vanguard Training Institute

San Antonio, TX – December 29, 2010 – The National Protective Services Institute announced today it has partnered with the Vanguard Training Institute to provide advanced medical training.

Saving lives is important business. Training people to save lives is even more so. When Jason McLendon first started providing executive protection services, he made it clear he felt it was extremely important for a protective specialist, sometimes referred to as a “bodyguard”, to be trained in advanced first aid skills. That is why he took the extra training to become a nationally registered Emergency Medical Technician. Later, when he began teaching executive protection courses, he always recommended students take the extra steps to get trained in advanced first aid.

“Who would you rather have guard you?” asks McLendon. “The person who has received the appropriate protection training and is certified in basic first aid, or the same person who has received much more advanced training, such as a medical first responder (called an Emergency Care Attendant in Texas) or an Emergency Medical Technician?” The answer, of course, is obvious. In many cases, executives lead extremely stressful lives and have more of a chance of being a victim of a medical emergency than an actual attack. “You have to be prepared for everything” says McLendon. Of course, he adds, advanced medical training would certainly also help in case of trauma received during an attack.

Although the National Protective Services Institute (NPSI) has been capable of training students to the medical first responder level, they have just formed a partnership with the Vanguard Training Institute (VTI) in order to offer a much higher level of medical training to students. They are now able to offer training up the Paramedic level, as well as numerous tactical medical response classes for law enforcement and security professionals. More importantly, just like the classes conducted by NPSI, the VTI instructors have extensive, real-world experience in their field, which makes the learning environment so much better for the student.

James Smith, Vanguard Training Institute CEO, says “Partnering with the National Protective Services Institute is the right thing to do. When we combine our tactical medical training with their law enforcement and security classes, the outcome is better trained public safety professionals and a safer environment for the public.” Smith went on to say that since they operate in concentric circles, forging together and merging their strengths will allow them to offer a never- before-seen educational platform, providing a united capability that cannot be matched.
