How To Increase Sales for the 2010 Holiday Shopping Season

With the past recession and trying economic times many business owners are looking for ways to increase their holiday sales. The good news is that holiday sales forecasts project a significant sales increase of nearly 15 percent for the 2010 holiday season.

Los Angeles, CA -- November 23, 2010 -- According to Deloitte, “Online growth will continue to be strong—and we don’t see any abatement in its growth,” says Alison Paul, Deloitte’s retail practice head. The reason non-store shopping continues to rise, she says, is its convenience. “Rather than endure the expense and time of getting in a car and driving to the store, finding a parking spot and seeing if the item they are looking for is in stock, consumers can sit at their desk and make a purchase,” she says. “Consumers have realized that it’s easy to do.”

Many business owners have focused their online marketing campaigns and revenue toward the social networks in order to increase sales. Facebook advertising and the utilization of Facebook Fans pages has allowed the small to medium sized business owner to market their products and services to targeted individuals seeking their products without the benefit of a large marketing budget.

The social networks also allow business owners to provide direct communication between the public and the business owner. Visitors are able to request products, suggest the business to friends and pass along discount coupons to friends and family members. What better place to announce your new holiday products than at a large social gathering?

Additional incentives such as coupons, discounts and “Special Days” have proven successful for many a business owner. Offering a free item or service at a special time on a specific day is an offer potential customers are willing to post, share, tweet and text to all of their friends. Holding these special days on a regular day per month will go a long way towards increasing sales and building a loyal customer base.

Holiday Only Items are a great way to move items available only in a limited quantity or with holiday only package. When shopping only visitors have more options and more choices than when they visit a brick and mortar store. When going to a brick and mortar store the visitor must utilize their energy to go to the store, while shopping online the visitor is merely surfing the net from store to store looking for the best offer for the same item. The best offer will usually include the best price for the item, the best price for shipping, the fastest delivery, included amenities and the most best bells and whistles. When deciding what products to offer always research your competition.

Remember, the holidays are about friends and family sharing laughs and good times. Make the holidays sweet by providing your customers with more than just a purchase but a one of a kind experience and you will see your sales increase significantly!
