When patients lose a substantial among of weight - either through traditional diet and exercise or with the aid of bariatric surgery - they will often find themselves dealing with troubling new cosmetic issues. Board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Charlotte Rhee, explains how one procedure seems to be making all the difference.

"For obese individuals, dropping a significant amount of weight can have a profoundly beneficial impact on their overall health," explains Dr. Rhee. "Many are left discouraged, however, with the toll it can take on their body - the most common of which is loose, hanging skin."

"Thankfully, many post-bariatric patients are exploring body contouring surgery following their weight loss," explains Dr. Rhee. "It's quickly becoming a go-to solution for dealing with loose skin and fat." While skin tends to "bounce back" in cases of lesser weight loss, those who have lost a significant amount of weight often find that their skin does not adjust as well to their new size.

Asked to speak on what body contouring entails, Dr. Rhee offered this: "Body contouring combines several procedures based on a patient's medical needs and cosmetic goals," reports Dr. Rhee. "Often, it will include some combination of tummy tuck surgery, arm lift surgery and/or a body lift procedure. The goal is to resculpt the body, achieving a more proportionate figure."

Offering advice on how patients can explore body contouring surgery for the first time, Dr. Rhee concluded with this: "Body contouring can make a patient not only look better, but feel better about their healthy decision to lose weight. I encourage anyone interested to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon in their area."
