It was developed by Matt Groening with the story revolving around the members of a dysfunctional family in the city of Springfield. The series takes place in a typical American city with characters inspired from the American society and the common issues faced by a working class family is portrayed through the medium of an animated situational comedy. It is the longest running prime time series in America with a huge fan base. It was well received by both audiences and critics alike. The series centered on Bart for the initial period and then the spotlight shifted to Homer. Bart was the only imaginary character to be included in a list of hundred most influential people of the century by the Time Magazine. The Simpsons, apart from being the most successful series in America, has won many awards which include 27 Emmy awards, a Peabody Award and 27 Annie awards. It was also named as the best television series of the century by the Time magazine. The Simpsons has also been honored with a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
