Ways to deal with Heart AttackFeatured PR

A heart attack, also called coronary thrombosis or myocardial infarct, occurs when there is an obstruction to the flow of blood in one of the two branches of the coronary arteries.

"Any substantial disruption to the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle interferes with heart function and can threaten the survival of heart tissue itself."

Heart attack or acute myocardial infarction results from death of heart tissues due to complete blockage in one of the coronary arteries supplying blood to heart. When blood-borne oxygen is not supplied to heart tissue for longer than 30 minutes, known as ischemia, there may be irreversible death of heart muscles, which can lead to chest pain and pressure. In most cases, this blockage is due to coronary heart disease, also known as atherosclerosis. Sudden cardiac arrest results from the abnormal rhythm of heart, which can lead to stop beating suddenly. Some risk factors for cardiac arrest are severe physical stress, heart disease and inherited heart conditions. According to the statistics by World Health Organization (WHO), coronary heart disease is responsible for about 17 million deaths every year throughout the world.

Heart Attack Symptoms –

Symptoms differ from one person to another. It is also observed that the symptoms in women are much different from men. Some of the common symptoms are:
* Chest discomfort: You may feel discomfort or pain like a tight ache, pressure, fullness or squeezing in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes. The discomfort may come and go on intervals.
* Upper Body Pain: You may experience pain or uneasiness spread beyond your chest to your shoulders, arms, back, neck, teeth or jaw. Alternately, you could have upper body pain sans chest discomfort.
* Stomach Pain: The pain may extend downward into your abdominal area and may feel like heartburn.
* Anxiety: You may feel a sense of doom or have a low moment as if you are having a panic attack for no apparent reason.
* Sweating: You may suddenly break into a sweat with cold, clammy skin.
* Nausea and Vomiting: You may feel sick to your stomach or feel like vomiting.

However, women have different symptoms as opposed to men. In addition to pain or discomfort, they also experience the following symptoms:
* Neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdominal discomfort
* Shortness of breath
* Nausea or vomiting
* Abdominal pain or "heartburn"
* Sweating
* Lightheadedness or dizziness
* Unusual or unexplained fatigue
CPR has been the standard and most effective form of first aid. Time is of the essence in a heart attack! It is important to take action quickly if you are to save the person's life. Some people decide unwisely to wait until they are sure they are having a heart attack. Often, they wait too long before getting help. You may need to perform CPR for an extended amount of time depending on where the victim is currently located and how easily accessible they are by emergency medical staff. In contrast, individuals of all strengths can use the AED device, since it requires the individual merely to push a button in order to jolt the heart back to life using a shocking stimulation. Generally speaking, it only takes one or possibly two shocks to the heart in order for the victim’s heart to properly respond, allowing the individual working the defibrillator to perform other medical tasks that may be necessary.
