In today's MBAUniverse.com article you will get the expert advice on section wise preparation for SNAP 2011 from Gautam Puri, Vice Chairman, Career Launcher.
Noida, UP, India (pr4links.com) 05/08/2011
Symbiosis International University has recently announced SNAP 2011, the entrance exam for the 14 Symbiosis institutes. The exam will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2011. Though the important dates for registration and other details have not been announced yet but from now on you have about four months to prepare for SNAP 2011.

In the previous article on SNAP, we had given you the past five years’ analysis and trend. In today’s MBAUniverse.com article you will get the expert advice on section wise preparation for SNAP 2011 from Gautam Puri, Vice Chairman, Career Launcher.

There are five sections in the exam. These are: Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, Analytical & Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency and General Awareness. The difference between SNAP and other MBA entrance exams like CAT, XAT, FMS, JMET etc. is the section on General Awareness.

As far as the marking scheme is concerned, the sections of General English, Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency, General Awareness and Analytical & Logical Reasoning Sections have 1 mark each for the correct answers and Analytical & Logical Reasoning section has two marks each. Total marks are 180. Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency, General Awareness has 40 marks each and Analytical & Logical Reasoning section has 60 marks. There is 25 per cent negative marking for each incorrect answer.

Quantitative ability

This section will have questions based on arithmetic topics i.e. percentages, profit-loss, SI-CI, TSD, ratio-proportion and mixtures. “So when you are preparing for QA, ensure that you are good in the arithmetic part and then move on to other areas like number system, PNC, probability, algebra and geometry (the order in which sections are written is the order in which you are supposed to study),” mentions Puri.

General English

This section consists of questions based on reading comprehension, para-jumbles, vocabulary and sentence correction. “Reading comprehension is quite straightforward, so basic reading speed is important. Vocabulary generally consists of high frequency words and sentence correction can be easily solved if one is a regular reader. Para-jumbles might be tricky sometimes,” Puri explains. According to him, it would be good if you can complete the section in 30 minutes.

Data interpretation & Data Sufficiency

Puri mentions that Data interpretation has around 15 questions, which are generally given in the forms of a table, pie chart, line diagram or bar diagram. “In this section, you must try not to get stuck in any of the given questions, if you are stuck leave that question and go for the next one,” he says. According to him, around 35 to 40 minutes should be spent in this section.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

Talking about the pattern of the questions that come in the Logical Reasoning portion, Puri mentions, “SNAP has a good mix of analytical reasoning, number series, critical reasoning and some times very simple logical reasoning based on common sense that is unique to SNAP.”

“You have to have a high speed in this section. Hence you must regularly practice analytical reasoning, mathematical reasoning, and critical reasoning. You must also apply common sense while writing the paper,” advises Puri. According to him, you should give around 45 to 50 minutes to this section.

General Awareness

This section is based on current affairs. “A person who has been regularly reading the newspapers for past few months would be able to clear this section easily. If you have not been able to read the newspapers in the past, please try to go through the past editions,” Puri advises. “General knowledge is like vocabulary, you will have only two options - either you know it or you don't know it,” he adds. The ideal time span to solve this section is 10 minutes.
