Brigadier General Machut was only 7 yrs. old when his brother died in Vietnam. He followed in his brother's footsteps and joined the Marine Corps and led his battalion into Iraq at the commencement of the war in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has been awarded the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with a gold star, the Navy Commendation Medal with gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
