Sequoia National Forest, CA, July 07, 2011 -- IronRichFood.org, a comprehensive new website dedicated to food iron has been launched to help consumers fight iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia with strategic food choices and food preparation strategies.

“No comprehensive website has existed on iron rich foods,” said Amanda Rose, Ph.D. who designed the graphic displays of iron in over 3,000 foods.

Consumers can search the site for their favorite food and find a description of the food’s iron content along with a comparison of foods from the same food group. When a consumer searches for “peaches,” she will find the iron content of peaches compared to the top ten iron rich fruits.

“As we designed the site, we wanted to help consumers understand a food’s iron content. After all, ‘one milligram of iron in one hundred grams of food’ has little meaning on its own. One milligram of iron in one serving of fruit is exceptional for fruit but just mediocre for red meat,” adds Rose.

The site showcases not only iron rich foods but also food selection and cooking techniques that help your absorb more iron. Old-time cooking methods are a favorite on the website.

“Food science tells us that sourdough bread and other fermented food has iron that is more readily absorbed by our bodies. It is a bonus that it also tastes great,” offers Rose.

The site launches with over 3,000 foods and will add more foods to the site throughout 2011 to provide consumers with extensive information on iron rich foods.
