Singapore Employment Pass is a permit for foreign entrepreneurs and investors who want to operate a business in the country. This visa is also required to foreign professionals, supervisors, and high-ranking employees who want to work and relocate in the country.

According to business solutions provider AsiaBiz Services, this pass is applicable to foreign entrepreneurs and professionals who have a college degree or diploma from a reputable university.

But aside from a college education, Singapore Employment Pass applicants should also meet these requirements: entrepreneurial skills or previous experience in managing a business, professional qualifications, and a monthly salary of at least S$2,500.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Manpower allows manual or online application of Employment Pass. It also allows applicants from abroad to apply for this visa as long as they are represented by their employers (who must be based in Singapore).

For online applications, foreigners should go to MOM website which provides an online portal for work pass transactions where they are required to fill out the requirements. (They will be charged with a S$10 administrative fee.)

Generally, the applications are processed within seven days which is shorter compared to the manual applications that are usually processed for approximately five weeks (the processing may be longer during peak time or if other government agencies require foreigners to submit additional documents and requirements.

For foreigners who are in Singapore and want to manually submit their application, they can download the Employment Pass application form which can be found in MOM website. And once they have filled out the form, the can send this in person, together with other supporting documents, to SingPost post office which is the collecting agent of MOM.

They can check their application status from the Internet 21 days after its submission. Meanwhile, there will also be a notification letter in case that their application has been approved.
Foreign entrepreneurs who want to apply for this visa and are planning to setup a Singapore company are generally advised to hire a professional firm that will help them to secure their work visa and meet the compliance matters stated by Singapore Companies Act.

According to AsiaBiz Services, the corporate law does not allow foreign individuals and entities to self-register their own company which means that they are required to hire a business solution provider which must be accredited by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).

AsiaBiz Services is a company that specializes in business registration and provides consultation services in legal, taxation, corporate, and financial requirements.
